Friday Favourites: The Best New Tracks of the Week 06/11/26
Here are the tunes we’ve had on repeat this week.

There's so much new music being released in the world these days that it's hard to keep up. Even if you consider yourself a music nerd, it's impossible to listen to the hundreds of new tracks dropping every week. That's why we're here to help.
The crew at The Note are constantly turning up the volume in the office, checking out all the latest tunes from local emerging artists right through to your favourite global superstars.
We want to make sure you stay ahead of the curve, so every Friday we are bringing you our favourite tracks of the week.
This week's list features new music from Charlie Pittman, Shygirl, Everything Everything, Pixies, Christine and the Queens and more.
Charlie Pittman – 'shut me up!' feat. Charley
Australia is producing some top-tier pop stars of late. Ruel, Jack Gray, Budjerah and the like have all been making waves in recent years, and we here at The Note think the next cab off the rank is Charlie Pittman.
If his name sounds familiar, it's probably because the half-British, half-Australian singer-songwriter placed second on the 2023 edition of The Voice, which led to him signing a deal with Island Records Australia (Universal Music Australia) and moving to Sydney to further his career.
Today, Pittman has shared his new single 'shut me up!', a soaring relationship-driven pop duet with fellow emerging artist Charley. The track was originally co-written in Nashville with Nightly, Jonathan Capechi, Joey Beretta and Claire Howell two years ago and is a great vehicle for both voices.
Produced by Pittman's longtime friend and bandmate, Adelaide-born, Sydney-based producer and artist Kyle Charles Hall, 'shut me up!' also works as a great introduction to Pittman, who is sure to be a name you hear a lot more of over the coming 12 months.
Pixies – 'Punk Loop'
Alternative greats Pixies have shared four previously lost tracks this week that were recorded between 1987–1991: 'Dig For Fire (Albini Version)', 'Go Man Go', 'Brackish Boy' and 'Punk Loop'.
Fans will no doubt get a kick out of all four singles, especially the Kim Deal co-written 'Go Man Go', but for me, it's hard to pass the chaotic 'Punk Loop'.
Recorded during the 1991 Trompe le Monde sessions, it's a melodic wall of sound featuring Black Francis' familiar sing-speak vocals.
Christine and the Queens – 'Rendez-vous avec toi/Rendez-vous in your arms'
Captivating synth-pop purveyor Christine and the Queens returns with a new track that's been released in both French and English.
This is a really fun song featuring a finger-snapping disco beat that will play well in intimate clubs and large arenas.
Both versions are great, but we've selected the French single ('Rendez-vous avec toi') as it's accompanied by a brilliant music video co-directed by Christine and Raphaël De Albuquerque, with choreography by Alexander Ekman, that you can check out below.
Liars – 'Beat Creep Some Eyes'
This is the second track taken from Liars' upcoming A Ban on Plastic Bag Bans album, their first in six years.
It's a pulsating pop-jazz track with glitchy moments where vocalist Angus Andrew's mesmerising vocals fill the spaces between punishing drum fills and sketchy synths.
In a statement about the song, Andrew said, "Sometimes I think the strangest thing isn't that the world is absurd, but how quickly we get used to it. You can find yourself living inside something completely ridiculous and, after a while, it just becomes Tuesday. Then you start to wonder if you're seeing things clearly at all. You know what you're looking at, but you’re no longer sure you’re seeing it correctly. I think the music lives somewhere in that space."
Shygirl – 'Eternal'
I'll admit to only being a casual fan of Shygirl. Not all of her music resonates, but 'Eternal' showcases another side of the British creative that I'm warming to.
Taken from her just-released album Swallow!, there's an ethereal, nostalgic feel to 'Eternal' – it could have easily come out in the late '90s and been a club hit.
Shygirl delivers dreamy, vulnerable vocals over a swirling piano-anchored production that hits just hard enough to get the club moving without causing a riot.
1tbsp & miki – 'Carottes'
Similar to Shygirl, 1tbsp is one of those artists I dip in and out of. I like most of what the Aussie producer cooks up, but I think he lacks consistency, in my humble opinion. That said, when he's on, he's on, as is the case with 'Carottes'.
This collaboration with French artist miki is invigorating. 'Carottes' is a slinky French-pop release with lyrics sung in French and Korean, showcasing both 1tbsp's production and miki's blissful vocals. More like this please.
Mertas – 'Real'
Northern Territory heavy-leaning quartet Mertas have unleashed their latest riff-tastic single, 'Real'.
This one takes dollops of punk, metal and rock, drops them in a blender with crushing riffs and raw lyricism, turns it up to 11 and serves up a tasty concoction of heavy rock goodness.
There is a real intensity to Mertas, and they remind me a little of Ricochet, an old Adelaide band from the '90s who had a similar forcefulness in their music. Anyway, this is great stuff, and I encourage you to check out more of Mertas work.
Rainbow Girls – 'Change'
While we try to keep Friday Favourites confined to original new tracks, sometimes artists produce covers that just have to be mentioned; such is the case with Rainbow Girls' take on Big Thief's 'Change'.
The trio of Erin Chapin, Caitlin Gowdey and Vanessa Wilbourn's rendition of 'Change' remains fairly faithful to Big Thief's, although the three-part harmonies add a little something special.
Everything Everything – 'Poison Pop'
Everything Everything are one of those bands with an unmistakable sound that's easy to identify – glitchy, math-rock guitars paired with frontman Jonathan Higgs' easily identifiable and charming falsetto.
'Poison Pop' is the title track from the British indie act's eighth album, a sugary dose of frantic, effervescent indie guitar pop that borrows from their early work while still sounding fresh.
As for the album it comes from, Higgs says, "The album has a strong theme of addiction, particularly that of social media dopamine hits, culture wars and tribalism. The larger question posed is whether you continue to accept the life you are being presented with ('drinking the slop'; allowing yourself to be brainwashed), or you break the spell and throw off these convictions. There has been a lot of talk about how to deal with the ills of social media, and it feels like we’re coming to a moment of reckoning with it."
SPEIRA – 'HUNGOVER'
Brisbane outfit SPEIRA have just dropped their debut album ARKOMAI, a melodic journey through alt-rock, grunge and heavy riff soundscapes.
One of the standout tracks is the opener 'HUNGOVER', which sets the scene for the Paulie Bromley (george, The Beautiful Girls) produced record.
This track is a real groover, with Coco Scott's thrilling vocals pairing wonderfully with the intricate musicianship of bandmates Jasper Longden (guitar), Max Harford (drums) and Darcy Weidman (bass).
If you're digging this one, be sure to give ARKOMAI a spin here.
Psychedelic Porn Crumpets – 'Beam Me Up Then!'
After dropping two albums in 2025, Psychedelic Porn Crumpets have spent most of this year touring the globe, but they are officially back in album mode, announcing their ninth LP, Eudaemonia, and sharing new single 'Beam Me Up Then!'.
This is pretty much all you could ask for from PPC. There's plenty of electrifying riffs and feedback, and crucially, an ass-kicking melody, with Jack McEwan's distorted vocals the secret sauce.
Skepta – 'Broken Hearts' feat. Central Cee & Jorja Smith
Three of the biggest UK artists come together on 'Broken Hearts', the latest taste of Skepta's upcoming sixth studio album, The Fork and Knife.
The track merges Skepta's grime heritage with Central Cee's modern take on UK rap and Jorja Smith's unmistakably gorgeous vocals, crafting a club-oriented rap track with an edge.
Never miss a beat
